Presidents Message

The Cannons have become a significant part of my family’s life over the past five years. What began as swimming lessons and club nights has grown into friendships, experiences, new skills and memories that will be with us for many years to come. Like many families within our club, we have found that the Cannons are about far more than swimming. They are about belonging to a supportive community that celebrates effort, encourages growth, and creates connections.

Since 1997, the Cannonvale Cannons have provided an environment where swimmers of all abilities can develop their skills, build confidence, and discover a love of the sport. Whether a swimmer is chasing state and national qualifying times or simply enjoying the challenge of improving their personal best, every member is supported along the way. I am excited to be part of the Executive Committee as we begin looking ahead to the club’s 30th birthday celebrations in 2027.

One of the things that make swimming clubs so special is their teams of volunteers who work tirelessly behind the scenes. From club nights and carnivals to fundraising, sponsorship, administration, officiating, and everything in between, our club simply would not exist without the generosity of our members and families. Volunteering is not just about helping the club run smoothly, it also provides a sense of wellbeing, connection with others and development of new skills. I encourage everyone to contribute where they can, no matter how big or small the role.

I would like to thank our outgoing committee members and executive team for their service throughout the past season. The hours spent organising events, supporting swimmers, securing raffle donations, managing administration, and ensuring the club continues to thrive often go unseen, but they are deeply appreciated.

A special thank you must also go to our coaching team, led by Mark Erickson, alongside Ken Crittenden and Giselle Burton. Your passion, knowledge, and commitment continue to inspire our swimmers to achieve their best both in and out of the pool. The success of our club is built on the foundations you help create every day.

To our parents and families, thank you for the early mornings, kilometres travelled, countless snacks packed and unwavering support you provide. Swimming is truly a family sport, and the achievements of our swimmers would not be possible without you.

To our swimmers, thank you for the enthusiasm, determination, and sportsmanship you bring to our club. Whether you are diving in for your very first race or competing at championship level, you represent the Cannons with pride. Continue to challenge yourselves, support one another, and most importantly, enjoy the journey.

Finally, I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who has put their hand up to support the club this season, whether as a Committee member or in one of the many roles that help keep the Cannons moving forward.

See you on pool deck.
